this is nice attempt at modernism and there are quite a few things to like about this house. lots of asymmetry in the facade creates interest, feels more dynamic than a very symmetrical design would. simple material choices keep the building for feeling cluttered and a nice circle skylight/opening over the patio is fun and a visual treat. that one post porch is one of my favorites too. too bad the budget didn’t have room for some nicer guards/railings.
here is a blurb from the realtor:
view, view, view!! unobstructed ocean view, architecturally custom built home in prestigious point grey. this 4089 sq ft distinguished home on 50×122 lot. superior quality & workmanship featuring high ceiling on all levels, extensive use of mouldings. gourmet kitchen with luxurious cabinetry, top of the line appliances. luxury living space with excellent open floor plan. four spacious bedrooms upper level. basement is equipped with state of the art theatre, recreation room & guest / nanny suite. top school catchment — queen elizabeth elementary school, and byng secondary. close to all amenities, ubc, downtown. must see and own!!!
the home is 4,089 sq.ft. on a 6,100 sq.ft. lot in an rs-1 zoning district, which amounts to 0.67 FSR, sounds about right for an outright building permit application.
i was confused by the use of mouldings inside the house? if this is a modern home, there should be no such frilly things in the design. upon further investigation (see image below), what really is going on here is the use of some creative ‘shadow lines’. i don’t know if they do the house interior any favors though.
the sitting room with wood paneling and windows to view beyond.
this is always intriguing – unless i have a neck like a giraffe, once i am seated in that tub, i am staring at blank tiles. that window’s got to shimmy on down!
take a look at a load more pictures here. overall, a nice house, and from the images, the view is truly available from all the rooms on the back side!
